Synkroniciti is pleased to welcome back visual artist Cesar Ceballos with three minimalist watercolors that explore the fragility of human life. “Time” focuses on the human tendency “to forget about time” and lose perspective as to its value. We perceive time differently depending on many things within our psyche: pleasure, pain, busy-ness, wakefulness, and proximity to those we love are just a few of them. Cesar’s new focus on food, cosmetic and construction waste adds new dimensions to his pondering. “Enigma” is a bright mixed media portrait, combining watercolor with egg yolk and shell and using biscotti wrappers to apply materials. The title refers to the mystery of emotion: we see faces around us every day and make judgements as to the emotions they reveal but, the truth is, we don’t know what those people are feeling. “Portrait of Humanity in 2022,” made with hair dye and watercolor on newsprint paper, shows how fragile our sanity and ourselves are when threatened with war and disease, even if these horrors are far away from us. There is a collective element to existence–we manifest and mirror (positively or negatively) what others are experiencing even if we don’t feel it directly. This is related to that tendency to lose touch with time and float somewhere else that Cesar revealed in “Time.”

Experience Cesar’s illuminating artwork in the upcoming “Curiosity” issue, now available for pre-order here: https://synkroniciti.com/the-magazine/purchase-individual-issues/. The issue drops on June 1st, online only.
